There are multiple ways to monetize your website by far, and the lowest effort is going to be with advertising, but there are some tricks to doing it right.
And also like I said there are other methods to like affiliate marketing, e-commerce, and more that I I’ll show you.
Build Your Website First.
I’m assuming you already have a website if you’re looking to monetize it, or also, what do I know, you could just be thinking ahead before you’ve even built your website, in which case you probably should just start building your online business already
And if you have built your website yet, I have a really simple guide for building your own website. And even if you already built your website, you should check it out because you can make sure you have everything right, like a self-hosted website for ads, disclosure notices for affiliate marketing, and all that jazz.
E-commerce
I’ll be honest with you and tell you what most people on the internet won’t: running an e-commerce business is HARD!
You need to find good products people are willing to buy while managing inventory, dealing with clients, doing marketing, and handling other logistics.
But, if you’re up for the challenge and do it correctly, it can be really lucrative.
Tips:
- Use WooCommerce for seamless integration with with your website.
- Start with dropshipping or print-on-demand to minimize initial investment.
- Invest in quality product photography.
Digital Products
I consider selling digital products a little different from e-commerce, but you might see some people refer to it as just e-commerce because it is very similar,
If you want the tool stack for creating and selling digital products, here’s what I recommend.
There are plenty of different digital products you can sell, such as books, templates, PDFs, wallpapers, printables, and more. If you want a full breakdown of how to create and launch them, here’s a step-by-step guide.
Tips:
- Create high-quality, valuable digital products.
- Offer samples or previews to entice buyers.
- Use email marketing to promote new products.
Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is probably one of the quickest ways to monetize your website.
By earning a commission for promoting links to other products and services.
The best part is that there are a lot of different affiliate programs you can join.
Just make sure to promote products you support and that offer a decent commission rate.
Tips:
- Join affiliate programs like Amazon Associates, ShareASale, or CJ Affiliate.
- Write honest reviews and create comparison guides.
- Use plugins like ThirstyAffiliates to manage your links.
#1 Display Ad’s
Monetizing your website with advertising is the most traditional method to make money online. By displaying ads on your website, you can generate revenue based on the number of views or clicks the ads receive.
Of course, this means you need to have a high volume of traffic to your website to earn you a decent amount. Search Engine Optimization is going to be your most trusted ally.
It’s all about using the right keywords, creating engaging content, and using link-building methods to make your website the go-to resource concerning a particular niche or topic.
Similarly to affiliate marketing, there are a lot of ad display companies you can choose to advertise your website with.
Some of them, like Mediavine, have certain restrictions that you have to meet in order to partner with them. However, there are others that are more accepting and inviting to new website owners, such as Ezoic, which allow you to join without a minimum requirement of page views.
Tips:
- Use Ezoic for easy ad integration.
- Experiment with ad placement to maximize revenue without compromising user experience.
- Consider joining ad networks like Mediavine or AdThrive for higher earnings if you have significant traffic.
Blogging
Blogging is my preferred way to make money online it’s great if you’re someone that’s more on the shy side and can also be scaled to generate passive income. You create content and write about things that you’re passionate about and share it with the world. All you need to start is a self-hosted website.
However, it takes a long time and hard work to start seeing results so if you’re looking for a quicker way I recommend you consider some of the other options as you’ll need to put some thought into blogging if you want to make a living with it.
You need to create content that both your readers and search engines like. Because of competition and tools like AI, it can be difficult if you don’t know what you’re doing at first. However, if done correctly, you can create a completely passive source of income.
How do bloggers make money?
There are a few different options, but the main ones are ad revenue, affiliate marketing, and sponsored posts. You can partner with relevant brands and companies to create sponsored content that promotes their products or services. By creating consistent, high-quality content, you attract readers and increase the chances of earning.
Tips:
- Use Advertising and Affiliate marketing for revenue.
- Write engaging, SEO-optimized content.
- Promote your blog on social media and other platforms.
- Build a strong, engaged audience to attract sponsors.
- Clearly disclose sponsored content to maintain trust.
Offering Services
Are you good at something? Don’t do it for free. Offer your services to those willing to pay you through your website.
It’s as simple as creating a few paid packages for people to choose from. For example, if you’re a pixel art artist, you can sell basic custom art pieces for $5. For more elaborate artwork, offer a $25 package. For the highest tier, offer a $50 package that includes various bonuses and elaborate art.
Some of the most common services people offer on their websites are copywriting, web design, video marketing, and graphic design. Don’t get discouraged if your skill set isn’t on this list. With good marketing and a great portfolio, you can offer and sell any service. You’re not limited to just these services—you can offer writing services, film editing, music, and even tangible services.
Tips:
- Use Portfolio Plugins: Showcase your work professionally.
- Offer Packages and Clear Pricing: Make it easy for clients to hire you.
- Use Client Testimonials: Build credibility and trust.
Selling Courses
If you know and understand something better than most other people, you can use your website to create and sell online courses. These courses can include recordings, videos, and any other materials that might help the student, like worksheets or quizzes.
Online courses are great because people are looking to learn from experts directly rather than in a classroom setting. So by offering an online course, you’re able to give users a unique perspective, and access to your insights.
You can use platforms like LearnDash and LifterLMS that integrate directly with your website and make it easy for you to build and sell your courses directly from your website.
Now this will take some time you have to put in a lot of time creating content, recording videos, and structuring the course in a way that is easy to follow and provides value to your students. So you’ll want to choose a topic that you are knowledgeable about and that has demand. There’s no point in creating a course that no one is interested in, and you’ll find that you’ll have a pretty hard time convincing other people to buy it.
You can get started by offering as much material as possible for free. This will help you get a good understanding of what your audience is interested in. Then, use everything you learned about your audience’s interests to create a course that goes more in-depth and helps solve their needs.
Tips:
- Focus on a Niche topic: Make sure there is demand.
- Create high-quality courses: That provide value to students.
- Market your course using, SEO, social media, or email marketing.
Coaching and Consulting
Another option you have, if you’re experienced in a specific field, is to offer coaching or consulting services. You can promote your services, share testimonials, and provide booking options for your clients, all from your website.
Use your website to highlight your experience, qualifications, and success stories. You can use scheduling tools like Calendly or Elementor Pro along with Google Calendar to make booking sessions easy for clients.
This method of making money online with your website is not as passive as some other options. You’ll have to spend time marketing your services both on your website and off, on platforms like social media and other online networks.
It’s not as hard as some other options on this list, but you are putting in a lot of time to provide personalized and actionable advice, helping your clients achieve their goals and building your reputation as an expert.
Tips:
- Offer Free Resources or Webinars: Attract potential clients.
- Use Scheduling Tools: Make booking easy.
- Provide Personalized Advice: Build your reputation as an expert.
Paid Subscribers
You can create different levels and tiers of subscription, which is what I think is great about including a subscription model on your website, not to mention subscriptions aren’t anything new. So it’s not a surprise to see a subscription model on a website.
For example, let’s say you run a website about house cleaning. You can offer your readers a subscription for more detailed content showing the products you use, the behind-the-scenes, or even include a subscription that allows users to gain more access to you to ask you questions; the possibilities are endless.
The main goal is just to add value to your subscription model; for example, I run ads on my website. When a reader signs up on my homepage for free, the value added is that they gain access to exclusive content, and ads are removed.
So I mean it when I say, try to figure out how to give the most value for each one of your subscription tiers, as this is what is going to allow you to gain the most from them.
Tips:
- Use plugins like ‘MemberPress’ or ‘Restrict Content Pro’ to create a members-only area.
- Offer exclusive content or perks to subscribers to encourage sign-ups and loyalty.
- Regularly update and add new content to keep your audience engaged and subscribed.
- Provide Different Membership Tiers: Cater to different budgets and needs.
- Engage with Your Community: Build loyalty and encourage renewals.
Create And Selling Online Tools
The cool thing about having your own website is that you have the flexibility to create virtually anything. If you have a problem, most likely someone else has it as well. If you’re able to create a tool that can help others, you can build it using your website and market and sell it to other users or even to other businesses and clients.
This is by far the most lucrative way to make money online with your website, but also the most difficult, as it requires a lot of knowledge on how to build tools, market, and sell.
You’ll need to have a good niche that is in demand for your tools’ specific needs. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel here; do a little research and find how you can offer valuable services that people are willing to pay for. These tools can range from financial calculators and fitness trackers to SEO analysis tools and more.
If you’re worried that you’re not as technically skilled as you might think you need to be to do this, don’t worry. With the advancement of technology, you can use tools like AI, ChatGPT, and built-in plugins that help make your vision a reality much easier.
Tips:
- Identify a Need: Create tools or calculators that address specific needs within your niche.
- Use Plugin Builders: Utilize plugins to create and integrate tools into your WordPress site.
- Promote Your Tools: Use SEO, social media, and content marketing to attract users to your tools.
- Offer Free & Premium Versions: Provide basic functionality for free & charge for advanced features or access to more comprehensive tools.
Final thoughts
There are many opportunities to make money online with your website. From e-commerce, affiliate marketing, and digital products, each method has its own set of challenges and rewards.
However, it requires dedication, effort, and strategic planning. In addition to these, there are a handful of other methods you can use to monetize your website as well.
The important thing to remember is that it won’t happen overnight, but as long as you’re focused and determined, you’ll make it happen. Start small and stay consistent—this is the mindset that makes the whole thing work.
